Spice Up Your Space With an Accent Wall

How would you like to have your cake and eat it too? Well, you can...in the world of interior design, that is! Accent walls allow you to experiment with color, texture, and tone without the commitment of altering the whole room’s foundational design. What’s more, a stunning accent wall becomes the centerpiece to any room, which saves you money on the purchase of additional accessories that would just end up overwhelming the space in the presence of such a diverting focal point. There are many ways to design your epic accent wall. Here are some of our favorite paint design concepts:

Go Faux

Covering your accent wall in natural stone or pounded copper would be exceedingly expensive, but you can mimic those materials by using specific paints and faux techniques to create just the look you want!

Ombré It Up

The hombre affect is huge in the haircoloring world, but it can be just as cool when applied it to the color on your walls! All you need to do is choose two colors—same tone, different shade—and paint the top and bottom (or sides) of your wall in their respective shade. Then, use a dry brush to blend them toward each other. You can apply this technique either vertically or horizontally on your accent wall.

All The Stripes

Stripes can be applied to accent walls in a seemingly unlimited variety of ways. Should they be thick stripes or thin stripes, vertical or horizontal...or adjacent? Once you learn how to use it, painters tape can be your most important tool when designing a stripe-based accent wall.

Bold and Bright

The easiest way to make a statement with your accent wall is to paint the whole thing one bright color. Something energizing like yellow or magenta can enliven the whole room and everyone in it! Just make sure to pair it with some toned-down decor, such as a blush pink set of dining room chairs or a cream colored couch, to offset the vibrancy.

Focus on The Trim

If you’re still not ready to pull the trigger on an entire accent wall, just paint the trims, moldings, or casings. You’ll still get a pop of color that will add dimension and visual interest to the space. And, if you like it, you can decide from there whether you want to stop or keep going with your color palette adventurousness!

Chalkboard Wall

This idea might seem like it was made for parents, but playing school at home isn’t the only reason this kind of an accent wall can be both functional and practical. You can leave notes for yourself or anyone else in the house, have visitors sign their names, or even use it as the perfect temporary canvas by using colored chalk to create a beautiful pattern. Additional little-known fact—chalkboard walls absorb light without reflection and are, therefore, great for people with hypersensitivities!
