History
Fairlawn was funded in 1891 as a small homestead called a hamlet when the Northern Ohio Railway was built in the area. By 1908, Fairlawn had a general store, a mill, and a blacksmith, among other businesses. It was officially incorporated as Fairlawn Village in 1960 and became a city in 1970 when its population hit 6,200.
Fairlawn has had two major accomplishments when it comes to infrastructure. They successfully fought off the extension of I-77 West in order to avoid bisecting the city. The city of Fairlawn also successfully paved 16 miles of roads over the course of four years.
